President Report... Round 7

At the half-way mark of the Home and Away season, we have celebrated players reaching their 50th and 100th game milestones. Congratulations to all of these players - a great effort by all! We also have concluded two weekends of Lightning Premiership rounds - hope that all the players and their family and friends enjoyed the experience.

CONGRATULATIONS ALSO TO OUR INTERLEAGUE REPRESENTATIVES:

Under 14’s: Perry Cole and James Barlow

Under 15’s: Ben Cavarra, Sam Goldsack and Will Mutschler

We wish them well in the forthcoming Interleague rounds.

Over the past seven weeks we have handed out AFL Volunteer Recognition Certificates to our very valued members who contribute week-in week-out. I wish to

pay tribute to this collection of people all of whom the club would not exist without their assistance and support. A BIG THANK YOU to this group - much appreciated!

All members should have by now received a letter outlining all of our sponsors for season 2010 – please take the time to familiarise yourselves with our sponsors

and consider purchasing from them the next time you require any goods and services. Please also let our sponsors know that you are a member of the

Ferntree Gully Eagles Junior Football Club.

DON’T FORGET: This Sunday Night Player Awards Night (Sunday 30 May) will be held at Pickett Reserve from 5:30 p.m.; and the Under 9 B’s are rostered for Dinner

and cleaning duties.

In closing I wish to promote our Annual Dinner Dance to be held on Saturday 5 June. Tickets are NOW AVAILABE - FINAL numbers are needed by this Sunday night (30 May) - please see your Team Manager for further details and to avoid disappointment…

President Report... Round 6

What a night! The Ferntree Gully Eagles Junior Football Club held its inaugural Trivia Night on Friday 14 May together with over 90 people in attendance. We saw

people like we have never seen them before - Mary Francis won the most un-yuppy person; Liz won the Air Guitar contest; great performances regarding the Peter

Garrett impersonator contest – with special mention to Kevin ‘Peter’ Adam; and we won’t talk about the pin-pong ball contest - suffice to say that a great night was had by all! Thanks to all who attended; thanks to Col from memorabilia Magic who ran the night like clockwork; thanks to Sharon Nied for arranging the event; to Michael

Bourke for his ongoing support; thanks to PJ and Gary Bass behind the bar; and to everyone who helped on the night. This will now be a regular annual event so look out for the details for season 2011….

This past week, we received news that our Club had been awarded Level 2 Accreditation in the Good Sports Program. This is a wonderful achievement - we have posted the sign on the front entrance wall. New sponsors signage has also

been updated – look out for the new signs and please support our many valued sponsors.

This week we see the Colts players (Under 18’s) attending Junior club teams

training sessions – we thank Bruce Brunton and the Senior Club for arranging this.

This coming Sunday 23 May, the Under 10’s will be playing the Lightning Premiership. We wish the teams well in their first year of playing LP.

DON’T FORGET: This Sunday Night Player Awards Night will be held at Pickett Reserve from 5:30 p.m.; and the Under 16’s are rostered for Dinner and cleaning duties.

In closing I wish to promote our Annual Dinner Dance to be held on Saturday 5 June. Tickets are NOW AVAILABE - please see your Team Manager for further details and to avoid disappointment…

Mother’s Day was quite eventful for all and we sincerely hope that all Mother’s had time to enjoy the day and be spoilt by your families… We also raised funds for Pink Ribbon Day in conjunction with the Ferntree Gully Netball Club - all players were asked for a gold coin donation collected by Team Managers. For teams that did not complete this or had a Bye, we can still do so this coming week and will add to the amount already collected. Thanks to Trina Jacobson for souring Pink tape for armbands - she found some in Queensland and arranged for the shipment! Thanks Trina for your resourcefulness and persistence in securing this hard to find commodity! Thanks also to Patrick Hines for painting the boundary lines Pink; and to Graham Gardiner (Bristol) for supplying the paint. We will announce the total amount collected by the Junior Football Club this coming Sunday Night Player Awards Night…

Last Friday Night the Junior Club hosted Kent Park Auskick at Pickett Reserve – a sausage sizzle was arranged and the Mum’s enjoyed a meal inside the club rooms. Generally, it was considered a very good night by all - so much so that this event is now likely to be held each year on the Mother’s Day weekend. Thanks to those under 15 players who attended the clinic, joined in the drills and presented the awards - the younger kids really enjoy having older peers instruct them! The Junior Club also attended St John’s Auskick on Saturday morning at Pickett Reserve and provided a sausage sizzle too. Another great opportunity to meet the younger kids; and an excellent day was had by all. Thanks to Paul Waters our Auskick Liaison person and the Auskick Co-ordinators (Ian Connolly; Tess Woods; Laurie Hurley) who together arranged these events; and to everyone else at the Junior Club who helped on the days.

This coming Sunday 16 May, the Under 9’s will be playing the Lightning Premiership. We wish the teams well in their first year of football and first ever Under 9’s LP.

DON’T FORGET: This Sunday Night Player Awards Night will be held at Ferntree Gully Reserve (Senior Club Rooms) from 5:30 p.m.; and the Under 15’s are rostered for Dinner and cleaning duties.

In closing I wish to promote our Annual Dinner Dance to be held on Saturday 5 June. Tickets are NOW AVAILABE - please see your Team Manager for further details and to avoid disappointment…
