Change of turf species at Ferntree Gully Oval #1Members and supporters may have noticed a change in the turf at the senior main ground - Ferntree Gully Oval #1. Knox Council has recently completed works to introduce warm season grasses. This is a wonderful introduction for the Club particularly in the current environmental climate which will ensure that we will be able to train and play throughout the year on the oval. A hybrid couch-grass has been sowed which, as a result of warm weather and the spraying of the existing grass, will take over the entire surface of the oval. The new couch-grass will be heavily fertilised and watered very regularly by Council to promote the growth. Whilst there will be no pre-season training on this oval in the summer period of 2008/2009, the ground should be ready for the first round of play in season 2009. |
